The Columbia Hotel and Restaurant at the northwest corner of Tenth and Hamilton Streets was torn down in 1928 or 1929. Before work had progressed very far on the site, the stock market crashed and funding evaporated. Through much of the thirties, Allentonians grew accustomed to seeing barricades surrounding the abandoned incomplete foundation of the new building. Currently there is a police patrol station there which replaced the Allentown Parking Authority which moved to Sixth and Linden Streets. .
